Welcomed as king on a donkey, as palm branches were lain,
Angering scribes and priests, cleansing the temple from greedy gain,
Changing lives as He healed the blind and the lame,
Returning to Bethany, for just a short while to remain,
Teaching openly, the truth and what’s to come He proclaimed,
An alabaster jar broken, a precious anointing not in vain,
The bread and the cup, a reminder to maintain,
Washing the feet of His friends as an example, He explained,
Agonizing in the garden, heavy grief causing Him great pain,
Betrayed for a bag of silver, the blood money forever a stain,
Arrested in the dark, like a criminal detained,
Denied three times, then His friend wept in great shame,
Led as a lamb to the slaughter, His mouth He opened not to complain,
On a cross crucified and for all sinners slain,
Darkness covered the earth, the veil torn in twain,
The stone rolled away, for the grave could not constrain,
Rising in victory over death, forever to reign,
Accomplished for you and me, that eternal life we might obtain.
